(A young woman of about twenty is roaming the streets alone. She has not seen signs of anyone living here, and decides to investigate a workshop. When she looks inside, she sees that it is also completely abandoned.)

Hm, no one is here either?

If no one is here, who am I supposed to charge for advice anyway?

I guess I'll just have to keep looking.

*a sudden deep rumble fills the air, heavy like an approaching storm, a groan like that of an awakened ancient beast. The ground ripples in time with the air's pulsations, shuddering beneath Jess and Chloe as they gather in the gardens.*

...Eh? What's that...? *looks up and out across the courtyard, into the distance, where the far-off forest seems to be... rising? No, the forest itself isn't moving, but merely a few tufts of its canopy borne aloft on the back of a great, seething mass of creature, a black, bubbly leviathan with a thousand red eyes. It lifts itself on slender legs, visible even from this vast distance as a towering god against the landscape.*
*somewhere deep in the woods, a small, silver-haired figure and his feline companion appear to be wnadering aimlessly. Aimless at first, perhaps, to innocent human eyes; but perhaps there is a purpose, for misty trails of light, faintly iridescent, drift and glimmer around him, and the forest becomes more alive, more vibrant, where they touch. The woods are dark and close around him, thick with fog and heavy with approaching night; but somehow, regardless, where he walks, the air feels a little clearer, the uncertain shadows a little safer, and the animals of the forest follow the path he treads.*

*he seems to be typing something into a small, handheld device; not quite like a computer, something more arcane-looking, about the size of a notepad. Faint words shimmer over its surface as he presses the keys, their glowing impressions lingering in the air a moment after their creation.*

*wanders back over to the workshop* ...Anyone here? Dr. Melanie needs some help gathering ingredients for medicines, and I said I'd go help, but I could use a hand with the gathering....

Also, anyone seen Vayne? He kind of disappeared on me a while ago-- I could kind of use his help looking for gather spots if he's already been exploring, and I admit I'm a little bit worried about him....

[A tallish... well endowed... woman with thigh length blue-black hair walks around one of the side rooms close the the main workshop.]

There! This should work nicely for now.

[It appears she's turned it into an Infirmary with a few curtained off beds and shelves and cabinets along one wall. There's a side table with a small stack of Wings of Icarus' keyed for the main building for anyone who wants to do ingredient gathering.]

Now I just need to stock it.

[A sly smile.]

Or find someone to help me with that.

[Have one Chloe Hartzog, working on something alone in the Workshop. She's enjoying the peace and quiet (that she doesn't get in her own) immensely, especially not with that annoying loudmouthed girl, the animal suit guy, or the fairy around to bother or interrupt her. The liquid in the caudron that she's working with shimmers, and changes color from a milky hue to a greenish one.]

Hmm, there. It's done. It's so much easier without the others around, though...

[A sigh, as she bottles the potion.]

I don't exactly have anyone that will try my good-luck charms now, do I...?

[A purr from that cat she picked up for her mascot. She appraises it for a bit before she shakes her head and looks to the other things she has on the shelves.]

...No, I'd rather have humans test this...

I don't suppose there would be anyone out there that would like to try some of these out for me...? I promise that they won't hurt you. Much.

[Vayne can be found walking down the streets of the town followed by a black cat closely.]

There are a lot of stores here.

[The cat meows in reply.]

Maybe I should buy something, what do you think Sulpher?

[Again the black cat meows.]

No, I don't really need anything....

*Vayne is sitting out by the familiar fountain, looking in a bit of a state. His head is low between his knees, as if he's trying to keep from fainting, and his long, silver tail is all puffed out and twitching erratically. At his feet, Sulpher is pacing around, occasionally rubbing his face against Vayne's pant leg. Anyone sensitive to emotions, however, can tell the Mana is actually far from in pain, nor does he seem particularly unhappy.*

Hah... I could do with a distraction. A workout, or something. I wonder what there is to do around here....

*he lifts his head a little and, taking a map from his pocket, unfolds it and begins to trace over the paths with his fingers. He doesn't seem to be doing a very good job of making sense of it, though; maybe he's too blurry-headed, or maybe the map is just old and faded.*

*one Jess Philomele-- or Philomel Hartung, if you prefer, but she knows herself by the former name-- walks through the workshop doors, lugging a large roll of Nicro Cloth and a bag full of Tufts*

Hey guys! So~, I was thinking about making some Puni-shaped beanbags. They'd be useful for having around when people want somewhere comfy to sit while synthesising, and they'd be good for back strain because they'd just be all nice and squishy to sink into, and they'd be really cute! I'm not really sure about the recipe, though. Someone said cloth, stuffing and felt would be good, but I don't think I've seen any felt around here. I might have to make some.

Anyway, it's gonna take a while, so... anyone want to help me with the synthesis? You get to design a beanbag! You could put cat ears on it, or give it wings, or whatever.... They don't even have to all be Punis. It'll be a really fun project! And it's not even like any of this can explode, so all you scaredy-cats are safe.

[A young man who could easily be mistaken as a girl sits by the fountain, his head in his hands. He gives a large sigh.]

What am I doing at an alchemy workshop?
